Tarang - A Unique concert by three groups of musicians viz Kiranpal Singh on Santoor, Stree Shakti three ladies on Ghattam and Tabla and Sarod recital by Bangash Bros the famous sons of Legend Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at Queens Hall from 3 p.m. till 11 pm partly broadcasted by BBC and attended by full house.

Golden Jubilee of Indian Independence on August 15 in 1997 at Ross Band Stand Princes Street Gardens -first ever Indian event in Princes Street Gardens where artists performed Folk dances from 14 states of India and attended by about 5000 people where we formally honoured war veterans of Indian origin.

For the first time in U.K Mahatma Gandhi Road was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India in Saughton in Edinburgh. Statue of Mahatma Gandhi was installed and unveiled by Prime Minister of India in Saughton Park in Edinburgh in presence of Lord Provost of Edinburgh

SIAF commissioned and organised first ever exhibition on India-Scotland 150 years of relations which toured all over Scotland and was organised in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Sterling and Aberdeen.

For the first time ever in the world SIAF commissioned and staged in Edinburgh as well as Glasgow Ram Lila in a three act play by three groups of artists from three countries with three different religions- the first part from Rama's birth till exile by Indian Hindu artists, from Sita Haran till she lands in Sri Lanka by Budhist artists from Thailand and final act from Lanka Dahan till Ravan Vadh by Muslims artists from Indonesia.  The event was a great success and highly appreciated.

Ceilidh and Bhangra Dinner and Dance Evening has been a unique experiment by SIAF to promote cultural diversity in Scotland. Nachda Sansaar from Birmingham and Bella McNab of Scotland joined to create innovative music where people danced not only Indian dances on Indian music and Scottish dances on Celtic music but enjoyed dancing Bhangra on Celtic music and Celidih on Indian music.

Bharatnatyam Dance by Malvika Surukkai: SIAF commissioned and organised UK Tour of famous Bharatnatyam Dance Group led Malvika Surukkai and she performed in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, London and New Catle Upon Tyne in partnership with our collaborators in year 2004.

SIAF has organised several musical concerts on Sitar and Sarod as well as Kathak and Bharatnatyam Dances by local artists from within United Kingdom.

SIAF has regularly celebrated HOLI festival over last 12 years in traditional form with Gulal, Bhangra music and dance and Indian food.
 

Dasherra

Our greatest achievment has been organising Dusherra Festival over last ten years. Started in 1997 with a small group of 35/40 local Hindu children and with the support of Kevin Dugg of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Dusherra has now become a prominent Festival in Edinburgh Calendar of Festivals. With the support of National Museum of Scotland, Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Education Department of Royal Zoological Society of Edinburgh and The City of Edinburgh Council SIAF has been able to organise arts and crafts workshops, storytelling and music and dance workshops for over 3000 children from 60 schools in last few years.

SIAF organises a pageant- colourful Ram Lila Parade led by Lothian Borders Police Bagpipers Band and other popular bands from Festival Square through Princes Street and arrives at Calton Hill where 40 ft high effigies of The Demon King Ravana his brother Kumbhakarna and son Megnad are put on fire with fireworks as symbol of Victory of Good over Evil.

SIAF is proud of building up strong partnerships with important institutions and has now succeeded in pursuading H M Prison to get construction and decoration of effigies of The Demon Kings in October 2006 by their inmates free of cost.

SIAF was successfully celebrated Diamond Jubilee of Indian Independence on August 18 2007 at Ross Theatre Princes Street Gardens as a major public event where we staged Folk Dances of India and Scotland by prominent artists. Once again SIAF was succeeded in building partnership with the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo who participated in this event.Besides we have engaged Orkestra Del Sol, Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, Bharat Kshetra, Dance India for a colourful memorable day on this event. SIAF has again succeeded in securing support of The Scottish Executive for these celebrations.

Scottish Indian Arts Forum in association with Scottish Pen is proud to present a memorable evening of Violin Duet by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijaylakshmi, accompanied by Somasundara Desigar on Mridangam on 22-September-2007
